Its funny really with all the facilities at Mochdre Vets from the pool to the laser machine you would think the staff would utilise the perks of the job but when all is said and done the staff are still clients too!
Natalie, Jo, Rhian and Jess are all animal lovers and dog owners but despite all working here for several months they had never brought their dogs to use the facilities, so Abbie and Gwenan invited them individually to come.
Despite the staff knowing and trusting Abbie and Gwenan there was still the misconception that their dog wouldn’t like it and Natalie, Jo, Rhian and Jess all had their own apprehensions. However Brook (aged 14), Rory (aged 9) , Boy (aged 3) and Monty (aged 13) all did great much better than their anxious mums thought they would!
Natalie was most worried as Brook had had some little strokes in the past and she didn’t want to upset him however he did really well and seemed to enjoy himself. Natalie is now doing more rehab with him and has noticed he can run up the stairs something he hadn’t done for a while.
Jo was very worried about Rory going in the pool in case he had an accident or caused a scene so opted to put him in the teradmill. Jo says I thought Rory wasn’t very keen on water so I was quite nervous how he would react but he took to it really well, and I certainly won’t worry next time I bring him in fact I really want to try him in the pool now.
Jess says when I brought Monty I wasn’t sure what to expect as he has never done anything like this before. He has arthritis and I thought he might be too tired but I was very impressed how well he did and he used his back legs well which is what I hoped!
So if you are unsure about how your dog would be in our facilities why don’t you speak to one of the staff whether its one of the rehab team to tell you the science behind the benefits or from the other staff who know exactly how you feel and can go through questions with you from their perspective!

Brook is a 14 year old Border Collie who is still a puppy at heart. He has general old age arthristis and has previously had vestibular syndrome. Because of the vestibular I was anxious about him going for a swim in the hydrotherapy pool. With a bit of encouragement from Abbie I decided to let him go in the pool. He did amazingly well and I was so proud of him. I would hesitate about him going for another swim.
